COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

SRM 101          Sports and Recreation Environment
Development planning and development plans are a central part of the management and delivery of sport in all agencies and sectors. This module addresses the fundamental basis for development planning and the skills necessary to engage in that process. The focus of the module is on the development plan and the factors, which constrain its implementation in practice.

SRM 102          Sports and Society
This module aims to provide the sports manager with knowledge of the primary influences on sport and sport management. Its also provides an opportunity to offer an effective response to the needs and aspirations associated with the planning and implementation of organisational development.
Learning Outcomes: At the end of the module, students should be able to:
1. Comment critically and constructively on the management of sport in the public, voluntary and private sectors, focusing on different organisational structures and the roles of different cultures.
2. Identify and investigate the primary influences on the management of sport and in organisational change.
3. Construct an effective, planned response to the future management of sport in the public, voluntary or private sectors.

SRM 201          Crowd Safety and Event Management
This module aims to:
1) Describe the roles of your own and other organisations involved in planning for, and managing, crowd safety and events.

2) Identify the main planning considerations relating to risk management, planning, communication, crowd dynamics and crowd behaviour.

SRM 202          Management of Health, Safety and Security
This course focuses on basic knowledge about health, physical fitness and exercise science. Topics of essential anatomy, exercise physiology, stress management, training principles of different fitness components will be covered. This course also focuses on basic understanding of health fundamentals and local health care system. Relationship between health care problems and individual habits, including dining, sanitation and the environment will be covered. Furthermore, this course focuses on the essential concepts in occupational health and safety enabling students to apply the evidence-based knowledge and techniques. Students will be further introduced to the health and safety policy and identify the causes of work related accidents

 

SRM 203          Facility and Operations Management
This module is designed to enable students to study current issues in sport facility management that are both academically relevant and vocationally pertinent. It will also allow students to develop their understanding of key competence areas, together with improving their facility management skills, particularly via the experiential learning phase. The specific aims of the module will provide the manager of sport facilities with the knowledge, skills and techniques necessary to ensure effective and efficient facility management. The opportunity to plan and critically evaluate sport facility performance and professional experience that will provide contextualisation for further academic study and specialist enhanced employment.

SRM 301          Sports Logistics and Event Management
1. To develop knowledge, skills and techniques to plan, organise, lead, control and evaluate sports event.
2. To develop the ability to critically appraise an applied sports event management issue.
3. To provide a professional learning experience that permits contextualisation for further academic study and opportunities for employment in this specialist area of vocation.

SRM 302          Sports Development
The module aims to:-
1. Develop the knowledge and skills necessary to analyse a development plan.
2. Develop the ability to appraise critically the implementation of developmental intentions.
3. Provide a specialised employment opportunities to contextualise the centre-based delivery.

SRM 303          Service Development and Monitoring in Sport and Recreation
1. Critically examine the role of a sports event manager utilising a systems approach.
2. Critically appraise technical, human, conceptual and personal skills/knowledge/issues involved in the process of managing sports events.
3. Use effective decision making in preparing, analysing and defending proposals on the selection and sanctioning of a major sports event.
4. Research, synthesise and apply knowledge and/or techniques to the implementation of a sports event.

SRM 304          Customer Care Strategy in Sport and Recreation
This module is intended to develop the student's own ability to recognise the need for and to enter into the process of personal and professional development. It is also designed to develop the students' capacity as independent learners and to encourage the development and application of transferable skills, of individual and group learning, across the programme of study. The module will support the student in: demonstrating an increased self-awareness and self-understanding, underpinned by critical and reflexive use of theoretical concepts and models; developing an understanding of learning and development by engaging in self-development processes; recording and evaluating their development process; and identifying continuing personal and professional development needs.
